KIPKEMOI

Kipkemoi is a Kenyan-German self-taught artist born and raised in Cuxhaven, Germany. In 2011, he relocated to California and planted his creative roots in the vibrant Los Angeles art scene. For over a decade, he has specialized in acrylic-on-canvas portraiture that centers on Black life, identity, and the emotional landscapes of diasporic experience . His work has received institutional recognition—including a solo exhibition in L.A. in 2021, selection as a contributing artist in the L.A. Lakers’ “In The Paint” initiative in 2023, and a 2024 feature on a prominent Billboard Creative billboard in L.A.

Kipkemoi’s artistic journey began later in life. His creative voice didn’t emerge until he moved to Oakland, California, at age 26—a point when the city’s rich cultural and activist energy ignited his passion for visual storytelling. Kipkemoi’s journey—from late-blooming artist to prominent figure in Los Angeles—reflects resilience, emotional honesty, and cultural reclamation. With bold portraits that fuse monochrome introspection and radiant pattern, he offers both soulful reflection and universal connection through the power of art.

On the night of October 7th, 2008, the darkness was unusually thick, swallowing the faint light that usually traced the horizon. The young Toposa girls walked home in quiet thought, their minds drifting through the events of the day and the responsibilities awaiting them the next morning. It was an evening like any other—until Awar’s voice broke the stillness.

“Look!” she cried, her excitement palpable. “A shooting star! No, wait—there are more!”

It was Almahata Sitta—fragments of asteroid TC3 falling like sparks from the heavens, igniting the Nubian Desert with their celestial glow. The ancestors had returned, their stardust journeying back after millennia. Time seemed to collapse, a bridge forming in the fourth dimension where only the present remained—alive, and filled with wonder.

“We Are All Made of Stardust” is an invitation for you to find freedom in a pure moment of mindful presence.
